Winter is well on our doorsteps, and while most burrow into their holes with blankets & coco, there's no reason why we shouldn't still get out and party like there's no tomorrow. We've had a huge line up of events through our site over the last few weeks, and now with teams in Christchurch, Dunedin, Auckland, and of course Wellington - we're slowly capturing all the hottest events in the nation.

Just remember if you're a promoter, or a DJ, or any kind of performer, the best way to get your events noticed is to load them up onto gig websites, including our very own. Queen's Birthday is just around the corner, and many bars in Wellington are jumping on the Sunday Sessions wagon. The Temperance is having a BBQ hosted by the Tui Girls & Hurricanes, before local bands drop some Sunday 'laxing music to enjoy with their own brew from their on-site brewery. Largerfield's is also holding a High Tea event from 6pm till dawn breaks. They've got some awesome drink specials on, and with complimentary cupcakes - you'd be a fool to miss out.

Just announced today, Shapeshifter have put out the dates for their Winter Tour so head over to our gig guide, or Shapeshifter's microsite for details. I won't blab on too much about what's on this weekend in the capital, you should all know by now our Gig Guide is the place to visit. But must say, I personally am looking forward to State of Mind @ Sandwiches on Friday, and Supermodel @ San Francisco Bathhouse on Saturday!

New Years is always a busy time for us here at SnapStar, we have the huge task of covering the busiest gigs spread all over the country. Not only that, but with so many artists giving everything they've got, we need to be on our game to capture every small detail, every beed of sweat, and every ounce of euphoria being spent. We've got wind from the organisers of a huge New Years event in the pipeline for the Wellington region. 12,000 party goers will be making their way over the Rimutakas for one night of massive entertainment. With the biggest line up a New Years gig has seen in sometime, it's great to see something in the region for Wellingtonians - after all, we know how to party! The lids being kept very tight on details for now, but keep your eyes on SnapStar for any exclusive information, and of course you'll be the first to know!

Fear of missing out (also known as FOMO) - an interesting concept, and one most party people are familiar with. The fear of passing up an opportunity, and missing out on something great. Lucky for those (or unlucky depending on how you look at it) SnapStar is always there to capture the events that you missed out on, so you can pretend you were there partying, and live off the vibe knowing everyone else had a great time. But then again, being there is everything, there's only so much reliving we can aid! I'd encourage everyone to get out there, kick FOMO in the ass, and throw your hands in the air.... even wave them? Only in Wellington would you find this... Walking through the park on Ghuznee Street at 2am in the morning to find half an orchestra letting off some harmonic brilliance. There was even a grand piano that they had wheeled in from god-knows-where! I just sat there for a moment, pondering. Isn't Wellington such an awesome city! Where else would you find something like this? 10 people enjoying themselves with an instrument in hand without a care in the world.

So why was I walking through said park at 2am on a Thursday night one might ask? I had just finished shooting the Six60 gig with my counterpart photographer Max at the San Francisco Bathhouse and was heading back to SnapStar HQ to download my footage. What a gig it was! It's been awhile since we've had a decent sized gig on a Thursday night, and was awesome to see the guys of Six60 selling out the venue. I've never experienced such a hot & humid San Fran! Keep an eye out on our website early next week for the video hitting SnapStarTV from the gig!

It's a big weekend ahead for us! Even with ANZAC day forcing bar closure at the stroke of midnight on Saturday, there is still heaps on the pipeline. Friday sees Agent Alvin from Hospital Records dropping it hard at top DnB venue Sandwiches. Largerfields are celebrating their birthday with a party that is likely to push on well into the wee hours. Saturday night the second installment of the Black Circus is coming to Maya, Shotgun Alley is playing at San Francisco Bathhouse through till midnight, and then Fried Chicken Soundsystem pushing on from 12 (one of the few places with a license to be open on ANZAC day - so expect this to sell out!). Sunday night see's the NZ Comedy Festival kicking off with First Laughs - their showcase show of all thats hot in this years festival, and is always a sellout. So it's been an interesting week for me. For one I was out of the city for a few days getting a bit or R&R in Napier while I had a wedding up there I was shooting. Napier never fails to put on the weather, and was great to actually get a few days of amazing weather this summer. Don't get me wrong - I love this city - but we've had a shocking summer!

This weekend has been a good one, with town pulling a decent crowd on both Friday & Saturday. Our team headed down to the Wellington Saints basketball game (which we were a sponsor for) to cheer them on to a great win.

Last night I headed down to San Francisco Bathhouse for international star Newton Faulkner. His concert was amazing! Truly one of the best solo performers I think I've ever seen! His acoustic set of 'Dream Catch Me' & the Queen cover of the hit 'Bohemian Rhapsody' had the crowd cheering throughout the encore.

There weren't any big events on in the capital last weekend, but this week there are a few that deserve shout outs. Hollie Smith @ San Francisco Bathhouse on Friday night is going to be great. She's in the middle of her nationwide tour, and I know she's looking forward to performing to the great folk of Wellington. Saturday night see's two beauty competitions hitting our shores, Miss Burlesque @ Red Square and Miss IndiaNZ Central @ Wellington High School. Jakob is also performing at San Francisco Bathhouse on Saturday night which is going to be a great gig.

That's all from me for now, I will catch you out and about! I'm up in Auckland this weekend, will be nice to get out and about there and checkout the scene up there again! Come on Auckland, show me how you party!

Second Page of the NZ Herald

I got an exciting email yesterday, asking if the NZ Herald would be able to use a photo I took last year after the Miss Wellington competition. The photo was of of Jonah Lomu and Loizos Michaels and was to be used to promote the launch of a kickboxing world series. For those that saw the fair go episode several months ago covering the battle between the KO Boxettes and Mr Michaels, this was another article on the same subject matter, but this time with regards to Jonah Lomu being "taken for a ride". If you're interested in the article, pickup a copy of todays NZ Herald, or read it online.

On a seperate note, I found it very interesting that in the past month a totaly of 1,417 hours have been spent by visitors browsing both this website, and Duplico Media.

Wow. It has been awhile since I've updated my old blog hasn't it! Really have neglected you haven't I? I'm sorry :( It's not you, It's me. Truth is I have been so busy of late that first chance I've had to update this is when I'm bedridden with a severe case of the manflu.

Until recently I have had my reservations for shooting for Wellington's online entertainment magazine, SnapStar. However after several meetings with them, have decided to jump on board! A lot of cool new things coming in the future, so keep an eye out! A lot has happened in the past month, so lets get the ball rolling.

It was nice, for a change, to leave the camera at the office, and attend the Mode Ink Modeling Agency Launch Party @ Red Square purely as a guest! Congrats to Kayla & the girls from Mode Ink for putting on an awesome show, as their launch into the model industry. Check out snapstar's photos.

I also attended the launch of John McGrath's new book titled "Watch this movie". A book reviewing 1100 of John's favorite movies. Make sure you visit John's website to find out where you can pick up a copy, and again SnapStar's photo coverage.

Cuba Street's Good Luck Bar turned seven and invited me and the rest of the SnapStar crew along to get snappy. Check our pics here.

Kayla from Mode Ink & I have been running the Miss V8 Supermodel Search in New Zealand for the past month. All the regional finals have now taken place, and we're now counting down to the NZ final on the 18th September at The Establishment in Wellington. Lotus' resident DJ's NDA & Rollout mixed up their usual routine and decided to get the crowd pumped on a student night for Fight Night @ Lotus. What was dubbed the "Fight of the Week" by some turned into a giant house-music infused party as Lotus was filled wall-to-wall with a crowd enjoying the amazing beats being dropped. While there was no winner on the night, make sure you checkout Lotus (and Tokyo Teahouse) on Friday & Saturday nights to see two of Wellington's hottest DJ's do what they do best! Last week I organised the Miss Super GP competition at Coyotes. We scoured the capital to find Wellington's finest. After our MC from the first heat on the 26th partied a little too hard, she lost her voice for the second heat on Friday. MC Brady stood in, and while a bit nervous at first at his MC'ing debut, managed to nail it by the end of the heat! Come along and checkout the final this Wednesday and Coyotes.

On the back of the success of Super Club #3, the organisers decided to throw a special Super Club #4 with P-Money headlining. Me and fellow snapstar shooters hit Shooters and got some awesome photos, and video footage. Check it out here.

A good friend Jitesh approached me wanting to get some sweet pics of his old car so he could chuck it up on TradeMe. We hit the Windy Wellington westcoast to get some sexual pics of his beast. Jitesh also celebrated his birthday at Tokyo's VIP room so I brought the camera out for a bit too :)

I also recently had a quick trip up to Turoa skifield on Mt Ruapehu to get some new photos of Turoa Skifield's happenings on a normal day. Also took the opportunity to catch up on my snowboarding skillz which was mad fun!

Wellington's newest cafe Joes Garage asked me to come along and get some snaps of their opening day & party in the evening, check out these pictures on Duplico's website.

Maya Bar asked me to come get some photos on a busy Saturday night to update their website, so check their site out soon to see them!

I've also just finished two new websites for clients, AJ Photography, and The NZ Leadership Experience. Make sure you check them both out :)

I think that's about all the updates I can cram into one blog! There is heaps more, but they're they main important ones. We've been busy with Duplico Media lately, with it being school ball season and all, so checkout Duplico's website for all those photos.

I will probably have time to fit one more blog in before I leave for England on the 20th September! I have a couple of big events, and weddings before I leave so will do one last update before I go, but will probably end up doing it on my macbook while travelling to be honest.

Wooosh! What a huge weekend! But before I tell you how the previous week has been, let me tell you about the epic SnowTrain trip to Ohakune! It's happening on the 4th-6th September. It includes a train ride form Wellington (or Auckland) to Ohakune, two nights accomodation, one-day mountain pass, and a huge party on the train & on Saturday night in Ohakune. Tickets are selling fast and all the info can be found on this facebook event page.

So the Saturday just gone was pretty event-full. Saturday I had a business meeting with Xquizit Promotions about their introduction to the Wellington promo model & event management industry. Then Saturday night had Lauren Sampson's 21st which I took photos & video for, while this was on my team of photographers was over at the Duxton Hotel shooting the St Orans Ball (check pics here). Then after we'd packed up from the ball, I headed over to cover SuperClub '09 for a Hannah who had organised the event. Check out my full coverage of photos and video here.

Back to the future-istic weekend!

It's not very often I use my corner of the world wide web to talk about personal stuff. So thought I'd mix it up a bit and personally thank Floyd Morgan and the team for putting on an AMAZING Illuminate Paint Party in Wellington over the weekend. Big ups for hooking me up with a ticket too! So glad I didn't miss out! 1,500 people packed the giant warehouse on Wellington's waterfront dressed from head to toe in white. At 12:30 streams of paint showered onto the crowd covering everything in its path with swirls of UV paint. Giant UV lights turned this party in to a scene previously unseen to Wellington. Fellow photographers Max and Mischa were there capturing the event for Snap Star - So checkout their write-up & photos from the night here. I was lucky enough to borrow their camera for a wee bit and get some sweet photos in the crowd.

Now that the fun weekend is over, back to business. I was up in Auckland last weekend to cover a friends 21st birthday party. Even though she didn't make it to 12pm - Still managed to get several hundred photos and put together a video of the highlights. Check out the photos & video here.

I was asked by Tokyo Teahouse to come along to their ladies only affair on Friday night and cover their "Let there be colour" party. I jumped at the opportunity, and had a great night snapping the colourfully dressed lady-only crowd. Check out these photos here.

Some other recent photo additions to my website have been Wellingtons Wagamama's Restaurant, Wellington From The Air (Recent trip in a helicopter over Wellington City), and Emma Law's Photoshoot in Christchurch.

There always seems to be one weekend every few months that is packed back-to-back with events that it's near to impossible to get around to everything. Normally first-come-first-served, or most-important-first policies would help, but not this weekend. I need to get along to everything and it's going to be one busy saturday night! Big Changes (v 4.0)

If you are a frequent visitor to my humble abode you may notice we've made several small cosmetic changes to this website.

The changes are meant to make your user experience better and make navigation around the different areas of the website easier. The homepage now houses a direct link to the most recent album uploaded (for those people that find themselves coming back to checkout what's new every so often) and also links to a few other services that we offer. Along with the new home page we have also upgraded the portfolio pages to now display one large image for each gallery within that portfolio. We've also updated a few of the fonts throughout the site.

As we upgraded the website, we also updated all the portfolios with the most up-to-date photo albums too, so make sure you check out all the portfolios, they're all filled with new goodness. In unrelated website news I've been bed-ridden this week and have mountains of work pilled up for me to tackle this week. I'm up to Auckland on Thursday to meet with a few new clients, newly engaged couples that would like me to capture their weddings, a few photoshoots, and catch up with a few good friends. I've just received my final University marks back for my degree, and have successfully completed my Bachelor of Commerce at Victoria University.

I've just spent the weekend down in Christchurch to do a photo shoot with Emma Law. Straight off the bat of winning SkyTV's show "Girl Racers". Congrats to Emma for winning the competition! We were fortunate enough to be allowed access to shoot in the amazing Huntley House. This accommodation is just amazing with no expense spared in making the venue for the photo shoot breathtaking. Thank you to Vanessa & the team at Huntley House for letting us use this for the shoot. All the lingerie in the photos was also provided by MellyPop Lingerie. So big ups to them too for letting us borrow some gear for the shoot.

Sacha Photoshoot

Several months ago I organised and ran the Ralph Swimsuit Model competition in Wellington, and part of the loot for coming first place was a free photoshoot with myself. The stunning Sacha Zaloumis took out the competition, and we had the photoshoot on Saturday. Here are just a couple of our favourites from the shoot. I will be putting up several more onto my glamour portfolio page this week.

Feminine Objects manipulated as Female Clothing

As you may know I have just finished my final trimester at Victoria University of Wellington, and as part of my final project for my photography paper we had to produce a series of four photographs that had been digitally manipulated and merged to include at least four images within the final image. Christchurch Photoshoot

I am off to Christchurch this weekend to spend some time with a few friends. While down there I am taking the opportunity to do a photoshoot with one of the Ralph runner-ups, and TV star of the show "Girl Racers", Emma Law. Check back next week for a peek at the photos from this shoot.

Auckland Photoshoots

Early next month I am up in Auckland shooting three models up there, and also a friends 21st birthday party. Will be a great opportunity working in unfamiliar locations and seeing what magic I can pull out on the spot without scouting locations prior to the shoots. I'm also catching up with a few newly-engaged couples up there that are thinking of booking me in for their upcoming weddings.

Europe Trip

I have been asked to cover a wedding in England mid-September, so am heading over to Europe early September for this. While over there will also be traveling around a bit taking in the sights Europe has to offer. On the Itinerary so far is Dublin, Rome, England, Scotland, Germany, Amsterdam and Denmark. No doubt I will have heaps of great opportunities for some amazing photos so can't wait to get over there.

Tim Pointers Twenty-First Birthday

I was invited to a friends 21st birthday bash at Wellington's Lotus Bar last Saturday. With an excessive tab on the bar, things got out of hand rather quickly. Here are just a couple of my favourites from Tim's B'day.

Missed me?

Have you missed me as much as I've missed you? I hope so. It's not that I've neglected you like a smelly sister. It's just I've been so busy I've hardly had time to spill the goss on everything that's had me so busy.

As you might know, May is the month for the New Zealand International Comedy Festival. I was lucky enough to get two media passes to cover every show in the festival. Every night of May I've been out and about laughing my head off, and have thoroughly enjoyed it! Everything from Wayne Brady, Dylan Moran, and Steve Wrigley, through to the shows with a handful of comedians all doing their thing. If you haven't been to any of the festival this year, I strongly recommend that you get along to the Best of the Fest shows, which are the best comedians playing in Wellington that week, all in one show, late on a Thursday Night at San Fran. Or the Late Laughs show which is pretty similar to Best of the Fest, and this is on the Friday night.

Asides from the comedy festival keeping me super busy, I'm also just finishing off my final year at Victoria University, and have been mega busy finishing my final photography assignments for this. Have a look at my latest project, Faces of Wellington. Which is going to be very exciting!

This weekend I took some photos for Wagamama on Wellington's waterfront. Not only is it a beautiful restaurant with one whole wall of the building being the kitchen, but the food was amazing too! Make sure you check them out, they're on Wellington's Waterfront. Here's just a couple of photos that I took for them that I can share with you.

Alice's Photoshoot

Alice recently turned 21 and for her birthday her friend brought her a voucher for a photoshoot with me.

Alice just wanted some nice photos of herself to look back on in years to come, which is what a lot of my clients like about their photoshoots. We did the photoshoot last weekend, but have been flat out editing photos from the four weddings I've had for the last four weekends. Have a look at the few photos below, and I will be sharing more on my glamour portfolio page in the near future.

Janet & Sam's Wedding Day

Janet and Sam celebrated their love for each other on Saturday on Wellington's waterfront at The Boatshed. The ceremony took place indoors before we ventured outside for bridal party photos around Wellington. For all of the group photos with friends and family we used the beautiful doors of The Boatshed, before heading down to Parliament for the Bridal Party photos. We then returned and used the winter garden and other areas around the lagoon by The Boatshed.

It was an honour being a part of their special day, and I warmly wish them all the best for their future together.

The newlyweds are currently on their honeymoon, so I will share some more photos on my site once I have sat down and shared the photos with them first.

Just a quick update on a few other things. We had the first ball of the 2009 season for Duplico Media last week for Chilton St James. Make sure you check out our website for all of the photos (and video). I also had a photo shoot on Sunday, which I'll be sharing with my blog sometime this week.

Sue & Howard's Wedding

I was invited along to capture the official joining of Sue and Howards lives at Murdoch James Estate in Martinborough on Saturday. The ceremony was set amongst the Blue Rock vineyard of the Estate, before the celebrations were moved in to the restaurant for the remainder of the day. The newly weds couldn't have asked for a better day with blue skies throughout, and a slight breeze in the air. I wish Sue & Howard all the best for the future.

I have just uploaded a video that I produced for a wedding that I was the photographer/videographer for in Taupo in January. I have removed the vows and speeches to respect the newly weds privacy, and to shorten the clip a bit. It's a good video at showing how the video and photos can work together to produce a great video. Looking forward to my next wedding this weekend. And the three weekends after that.

I have been so flat out this week that the first chance I've found time to share a few photos from Tracey & Theo's wedding over the weekend, happens to be at 2am in the morning. So I'll keep it short. Here are five of my favorite photos from their special day - and I will be sharing more once I've had the chance to sit down with the bride and groom to go through all the shots.

Last week I was asked to shoot the Winter & Autum Collection Launch for Daniel Carter's clothing Brand GAS. Here are a few shots from the night also.

For the past three weeks I have been organising the Ralph Swimsuit Model Search in Wellington. Was my job to find the models and advertise as much as possible to ensure the place was packed. And boy was it packed alright! Heat One and Heat Two brought in huge crowds, with the final of a similar level, maybe slightly quieter due to Homegrown the following morning (more on that soon). With two extremely close heats in the previous week, the final saw the hottest of the hottest battling it out on the catwalk.

The competition was fierce and the girls had to wear casual wear, eveningwear and then you got it... swimwear. The standard of the girls was extremely high and the judges went way over their time limit to make a decision.

In the end Sacha Zaloumis took out first place with Emma Law in second place, and third place taken out by Isa Lewell-Phillips.

On the Friday night before the competition I decided to have a quick photoshoot with all the finalists down at Oriental Bay.
